I had meant to post these earlier! Here are some work-in-progress shots of the Vyper! This was before I chose to go back over the hard-edge highlighting and just blend in some subtle grey tones instead. The final shots will be up tomorrow.

Working on stuff. I always do bases first, if i can. That way, when I finish a model, I can glue it to a base and set it aside. So, I have done up all 30 Biker bases, Sammael's base, and the Speeder bases to an ruined warzone look, with a few burst pipes and rusted sheets, chains, and fences. Should be a nice feel for the army. Here is the Bloodthirster base. Might darken it up a bit, though. The wings are on layer four or five in these shots, though I am far from done. Those are taking up most of my time, as the intricate texture makes for slow, methodical painting. They are also awkward to handle when painting, so I have had a hell of a time. Hopefully, I will be rounding him out in the next month or so.
The Ravenwing are slow going, as assembly and clean-up is dragging, though not for lack of effort. However, they should look pretty awesome when finished. Added some extras to them, as well as creative use of the bits provided. Did a few arm swaps, head swaps, and fun additions thanks to my friend's massive Marine bits box.
As for the Bloodthirster, he is going as well. Just finished up 99% of the metal. All that is left are the few random metal bits I may have missed, such as a few buckles or some such. The next step is the skin and then details. The wings are on their 5th layer, with a lot more to go. They are huge! It shouldn't be too terribly long and I am on schedule for the most part. Commissions have slowed a bit, but I am hoping that around January Finished the Rocker-Powered Speed Freaks Gargantuan Squiggoth! Check out the Gallery for pictures. The Bloodthirster is primed and ready - just needed to get some color printouts of the paint scheme before I got going. The Ravenwing are underway - 2 out of 5 boxes assembled, as well as Sammael. Going to buy some more black primer this weekend and start painting on them as soon as possible. Sadly, the weather has turned muggy and unless it clears, I won't get much priming done. This is why I need an airbrush! Just need to get one and be done with it.
Anyhow, keep an eye out for updates. I am finally back in the groove. They went into the mail today - a bit behind schedule with them, but they are finished. Here is hoping the client likes them! Next on the list is to finish assembly on that Bloodthirster as well as the Ravenwing.
Right now, only a single squad is ready - 1 Sergeant w/ Power Weapon, 1 Multimelta Attack Bike, 1 HB/AssCan Land Speeder, 2 Plasma Gun Bikers, and 3 normal Bikers. Here are a few shots: They are being left in pieces, because the last time I painted Ravenwing and the guys were glued down, I about lost it. This will make my life much, much easier!
Updates have been slim, because I have been absolutely swamped. Running a tournament at the local shop, organizing a gaming club, painting, modelling, and playing, as well as the day-to-day stuff, has meant few updates. Right now, I am finishing the last few details on the Blood Angels - should be shipping them out this week. The Gargantuan Squiggoth is nearing the end, but was a hell of an ordeal. Prepped the Bloodthirster today and started assembling the Ravenwing.
Keep an eye out for updates! Well, sorry for being so quiet! With my birthday and 'Ard Boyz, along with tons of other events and whatnot, I have been far from the keyboard. Nevertheless, I have been painting. Work on the Gargantuan Squiggoth is going, with the body underway and the Howdah almost done being worked on before being primed. The Blood Angels are on their first few coats of paint, looking like they won't be too long now.
Also, I am going to have a team member, officially making this a two-man operation. This will give me a lot more time to spend on higher quality jobs, while he takes on the tabletop stuff. Jeff will be getting his own workbench blog soon and I will be funneling commissions his way in the near future as demand has picked up. Keep an eye out for updates. Shipped off Tim's Sallies today. Hope he likes them! The shots of them are up in the gallery, but I didn't get in a group shot. There was 40+ Marines in total! With those done and the Blood Angels underway, I should soon be free of Space Marines for the first time in 8 months! As much as I love the Emperor's chosen, I am dying to get the Squiggoth finished and Gargantuan Squiggoth underway.
All right folks, I am swamped. The Blood Angels are underway starting today (8/2) and should be done pretty quickly. The Salamanders are a bit more than I bargained for with a lot of delicate blending to get the squad markings looking right. That has set me back a few days. Otherwise, they should be in the mail on Tuesday at the latest. Sorry for the delay, Tim, I swear I just want them all to look as good as possible for you!
On to the Squiggoth front - I am slowly making progress. To prove this, here are some shots of it under way. Going to weather up the armor, fix up some of the metal bits, paint up the face and other details, then toss in some powders and call it a day. That should eat up the next few weeks, though I hope for less. The shop owner should be pleased, as I think it is coming along rather nicely. |
